[ARCHIVED] 2023 Drinking Water Quality Report

Wilmington DE Water

Mayor Mike Purzycki and Commissioner of Public Works Kelly A. Williams are pleased to announce today the release of the Department of Public Works Water Quality Report for Calendar Year 2023. The report, mandated by the Safe Drinking Water Act, provides important details about the quality of the drinking water provided to the communities served by the City of Wilmington.  City water customers will again find that their drinking water meets or exceeds the safety and quality standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In addition to the 2023 testing data, this year’s report includes information about the revised Lead and Copper Rule and how the City is positioned to comply with the EPA’s new PFAS-related drinking water standards, which will go into effect in 2029.

The 2023 report is available on Wilmington Water's webpage here. It is also available at City offices and paper copies can be mailed upon request. To receive a copy by mail, contact Wilmington 311, call (302) 576-2620, or email waterqualitylab@wilmingtonde.gov.

“Our dedicated staff has provided our customers with high-quality water they can count on every day,” said Commissioner Williams.  “This report shows our customers how we are not only working to make sure they are protected from the rare possibility that lead is in their home’s water lines, but also how we are working with the latest drinking water standards related to PFAS well before they take effect in 2029.”

The City’s Water Quality Report for 2023 details the water sources and treatment processes used to provide clean drinking water. The City’s highly trained, state-certified water treatment operators and maintenance technicians work around the clock to ensure safe, high-quality water is delivered to the approximately 110,000 customers that the City serves year-round, 24/7.

To help our water, wastewater, and stormwater services stand out and become easier for customers and local businesses to work with, the City of Wilmington is rebranding its Water Division, creating Wilmington Water.  This change is more than just a name; it’s about raising awareness of our water, wastewater, and stormwater services while reaffirming our dedication to exceptional customer service.

To go along with the change, the City will soon launch a new website.  “This new site, WilmingtonDEWater.gov, will strengthen our commitment to providing clean and reliable drinking water – both today and for future generations – along with enhancing customer service,” said Mayor Purzycki.  “The new website will offer features such as improved account management, billing services, and valuable guidelines for contractors.  Whether you’re a homeowner, business owner, or contractor, you will find the resources you need to navigate our services efficiently.”

The website will also serve as a comprehensive resource for information on the quality of Wilmington’s drinking water and the extensive environmental efforts undertaken by Wilmington Water.  Commissioner Williams believes the new site will be essential to the City’s commitment to transparency and accountability in all aspects of its operations.
